Based on conversations with artistic hub de Koer and the theatre alliance K.A.K. (Koekelbergse Alliantie van Knutselaars), artists Renée Goethijn and Katinka de Jonge developed a script. HOwever, how it all plays out is determined by collective and individual choices. The audience takes the place of an imaginary collective and makes an important decision. There are several ways to make the decision and the outcome is always different. ‘Soep Opera’ is for anyone who wants to experience what it’s like to be part of a collective, or for collectives who want to experience what it’s like in another collective then their own. Starting from the idea that every artist works as a collective, the exercise explores how practices are shaped by people, institutions, materials, references, and conditions, often invisibly. By drawing their practice, participants shift from explaining what they do to sensing how their practice is lived from within. Perspective plays a central role: where you place yourself changes what becomes visible. The exercise is playful rather than diagnostic, and reflective rather than conclusive. It opens up questions about agency, dependency, power, and care, and invites participants to imagine what might change if they were to occupy a different position within their own constellation. By translating ideas into rooms, routes, structures, and spatial relations, the exercise explores how collectivity takes shape—not only through language or intention, but through social and spatial architectures. Inspired by the concept of the memory palace, this work does not aim to preserve the past. Instead, it invites participants to build a palace for the future: an imagined environment in which artistic, social, and economic values are temporarily given form. Through play, materials, and collective imagination, participants create spatial models that function as thinking tools for alternative ways of organising, collaborating, and being together. The Artist-Run Palace moves between conversation and action, seriousness and play. It is not a workshop with a predefined outcome, but a collective exercise that opens space for uncertainty, speculation, and the unexpected. Through interviews with people who took part in the project — residents, volunteers, partners, and collaborating organizations — the video traces the trajectory of DE HOOP in all its facets. What began as the idea of a city festival gradually transformed into a nomadic community garden, where working together, caring, learning, and uncertainty became central. The conversations reveal how a seemingly simple question — how to make French fries with mayonnaise entirely from scratch — unfolded into a collective inquiry into production, collaboration, and responsibility. Seeds, soil, water, and sun marked the starting point, but time, labor, knowledge, failure, and dependency soon emerged as equally decisive elements. Rather than focusing solely on outcomes, the video also makes visible what proved difficult. Practical obstacles, the limits of self-sufficiency, uneven distributions of time and energy, and questions around care and accountability all surface.&nbsp; The video evolved into a space where questions were enacted rather than answered: what does it mean to share land? How can care be practiced collectively? How close — or how distant — are we from the origins of what we eat every day? This video invites viewers to look back without fixing conclusions, leaving room for ambiguity, contradiction, and open-endedness. Every time it landed somewhere, pieces were added by many hands of people from the neighborhood. They brought fabrics with a story, which we weaved into the carpet. Now CAR – PET has found its permanent place in NW Aalst, where it wants to be a warm place for meeting and gathering. Anyone may ask if CAR – PET can be laid down on the ground, in order to host their own initiative. This could be a gathering for brainstorming on new ideas, or for learning an unfamiliar language, or to share food, music, crafts, or any other thing that is considered necessary, and for which this carpet can provide the space. From this research framework I am currently developing a form of conversation as an artistic and performative gesture, for groups between 4 to 12 participants, who are currently part of a collaboration (ie they are connected to each other as an organization or collective). It functions as an imaginary organizational structure (or a collective) that is established and disbanded in the course of the performance. The roles of different players can shift, and the group is challenged to think about their own cooperation. What brings/holds us together? 
The basis of this conversation performance consists of a script that is still changing, based on many interviews I did with existing self-organization collectives in Belgium and abroad. I mainly focused on specific themes that play a prominent role in these organizations (e.g. authorship, care or the use of space), which were then transformed in different ‘roles’. How do certain terminologies change meaning when an organization uses them? By selecting and mixing quotes from these interviews, a generic script is created that reads like a manifesto (‘About Us’) from an organization that never existed. 
This script forms the starting point of the dialogical performance, and is read throughout the performance, critiqued and finally adapted by the group, in various 'rounds'. The ultimate goal of the performance is that the participants learn to look differently at (aspects of) their own organization by means of this script, and a shift occurs in the way in which people speak in the group. The quotations provide a catalytic effect that enables a group of participants to question their own collective through the words of other collectives. 
Tryouts of the performance are organized in various organizations, including the collectives I have already worked with, but also De Kunsthal Gent, De Koer and WP Zimmer. All this is currently still in a testing phase, but through various tryouts I hope to find out which strategies work to have a fundamental conversation about collaboration which flows into an adaptation of the script.
